A bush fire is continuing to burn in the Bundarra area, west of Wearnes Road and north of Glenelg Road, 45 Kilometres south west of Inverell.
The fire has grown since yesterday and is now just over 2000 hectares in size but is being controlled. NSW RFS have advised the fire is moving in a south easterly direction towards Barraba Road, burning farmland but at this stage nor threatening any homes.
Firefighters are being assisted by heavy machinery and waterbombing aircraft as they work to contain the fire.
A public information point has been established at the Bundarra General Store on Bendemeer Street.
Locals in the area are urged to monitor conditions and stay up to date in case the situation changes. Rural Liaison Officers are meeting with local land owners close to the fire.
Smoke from this fire is expected to settle in a broad area including low lying parts of Tamworth and Manilla. If you have a respiratory condition which may be worsened by smoke, activate your health management plan and seek medical advice if necessary. Take precautions, such as staying indoors and closing windows. For advice, check NSW Health – Bush fire smoke and health.
