Gunnedah Urban Landcare Group will be adding a new playground to the Pensioners Hill Lookout as part of their ongoing work to care for the site.
Announcing a $196,051 grant from the NSW Government for the playground development, Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said Gunnedah Urban Landcare Group had been doing a fantastic job caring for and upgrading the facilities at Pensioners Hill Lookout, helping take advantage of one of the best views the region has to offer.
“Pensioners Hill Lookout is one of the best kept secrets in our region and I would encourage anyone travelling through our region to make sure they book in a visit to have a look at the magnificent view,” Mr Anderson said.
“The view alone is more than enough reason to pay the lookout a visit, let alone the incredible sculptures that make the park unique.”
“The growing number of sculptures and attractions at Pensioners Hill Lookout is a credit to the hard work and determination of the Gunnedah Urban Landcare Group who donate a significant amount of their time to take care of and upgrade the park with the assistance of grants.”
The latest NSW Government grants comes after Gunnedah Urban Landcare Group were awarded a $50,575 grant in 2021 to install a new waste art sculpture to look over the town.
“It was a pleasure to visit Pensioners Hill recently to see the great new additions to the park following the awarding of a grant in late 2021,” Mr Anderson added.
“A soaring eagle now flies proudly over the town and visitors can set themselves up for a picnic under shaded tables. I know these upgrades have helped in bringing more people up to the lookout and it’s been a pleasure to work with the group to bring these projects to fruition.”
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole said in the past five years the Stronger Country Communities Fund had delivered more than 2000 grassroots projects, benefitting every Local Government Area in regional NSW.
“We all know how important it is for communities to have great places to come together to build social connections and boost their wellbeing through sport or community events,” Mr Toole said.
