If you don’t know your port from your starboard or the difference between a jib or a jibe, there’s an opportunity on the first weekend in March to fix that.
Lake Keepit Sailing Club is inviting the broader New England Community to a “Come and Try” sailing day on March 4 and 5. Located on the banks of the popular recreation area, the club is hosting a family-friendly day to encourage new members to experience the joy of sailing.
The Lake Keepit Sailing Club has been in operation since 1960. Since then, a group of dedicated and passionate individuals have kept the club going. There is a well-established clubhouse on site, and the club runs a range of different social, and racing events throughout the year. They boldly claim on their website that if you like water, then you’ll enjoy sailing.
The club embraces a broad demographic of ages and backgrounds. They focus large amounts of energy on education and often offer summer camps for those interested in learning a new skill and building their confidence on the water. Lake Keepit is known for its predominately favourable winds, making it an ideal location for new and old sailors alike.
This year’s open days will be held from 10 am – 4 pm on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday the 4th and 5th of March. The Club will have a wide range of boats and safety jackets available for use by the general public. All attendees are required by the club to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Trials are open to all ages and skill levels and families are strongly encouraged to participate, however, all children intending to sail will need to be accompanied by an adult. Qualified instructors, who all hold working with children clearances, will be available to assist throughout the day.
Organisers encourage you to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy a full day of activities on, and around, the lake. The emphasis for the open day is strongly around families, with the hope that the next generation of sailing enthusiasts may be born.
If you are interested in learning more about club membership or wish to find out more about their upcoming events, you can reach them on their website, or via Facebook.
