Over 200 new residents and 40 businesses, community organisations and groups will be attending Tamworth Regional Council’s New Residents Event tonight from 5:30 – 7:30pm.
In response to feedback from the last New Residents Event held in 2021, Mayor Russell Webb is pleased with the revised nature of the occasion that will take place on Wednesday evening.
“Council recognises the importance of ensuring that new residents feel both welcomed and informed tomorrow night,” he said.
“Whether they’ve been in Tamworth for two years or two days, it is extremely important to us that this event helps those who are new to the Tamworth region network with a range of different people”.
Fionnuala, Tamworth Regional Relationship Manager for the Pacific Australia Mobility Labour scheme, believes the revitalised nature of the New Residents Event will particularly help Pacific and Timorese workers, who have recently arrived to Tamworth, connect with community groups and local services on Wednesday.
“Pacific and Timorese residents are an important part of Tamworth’s growing multicultural community.”
“By attending this event, we hope that organisations and businesses will see their potential to not only fill urgent labour gaps, but also to revitalise local sporting clubs and churches, choirs and volunteer services like the local fire brigade and emergency services”.
Those that are attending the event can expect light refreshments, catering and entertainment from Tamworth’s Conservatorium of Music upon arrival. There will also be opportunities to win raffle prizes throughout the evening.
