Stillwater Productions is producing Breast Wishes, a musical comedy set to perform in September this year, with auditions being held next week at The Armidale Playhouse.
Breast Wishes is musical comedy about love, loss, life, and silicon. The story marks the journey of courage and determination through heartbreak and laughter to triumph. Billed as ‘an uplifting musical’, the show is renowned for its witty script. In fact, one of the contributors – amongst a whole host of well-known creatives – is the one and only Wendy Harmer.
All royalties for the production go to The National Breast Cancer Foundation. However, producer and director, Donna Wainohu has taken it one step further as Stillwater Productions will also be donating the full amount of ticket sales. Sponsors and grants will be funding the production itself to help this fundraiser performance.
Wainohu is an incredibly talented vocalist, costumer, and experienced producer, director and performer herself, and has put together a talented creative team including Mike Gibson, as assistant director, Tracey James as choreographer, and introducing talented young musician, Will Mackson as musical director.
The cast will get to enjoy the challenge of playing multiple roles, sisters, mothers, daughters, friends, cousins, and a bra-fitter who has seen it all. As well as a fumbling boyfriend, well-meaning husband, cosmetic surgeon, naturalist / broadcaster, and romantic hero. Each role adding depth and nuance to this engaging musical.
“I first saw this show some years ago, where I laughed myself silly, and cried during the more poignant moments,” Wainohu said.
“I have dreamed of putting on the show ever since. Having recently returned home to Armidale I finally get to fulfil this dream.”
“Not only that, as a health professional, to be able raise funds for breast cancer research and highlight breast cancer awareness makes this all the more meaningful,” she said.
Auditions for the show are being held on Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 June between 7 and 10 pm at The Armidale Playhouse. If you would like to book an audition and obtain an audition pack, contact Mike Gibson, Assistant director via mobile on 0427 712 075 or via email at gibbomd@hotmail.com
