A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder following a fatal stabbing in South Tamworth yesterday afternoon.
Around 3:15pm Emergency services were called to a unit block at the intersection of Suzanne and Woodward Streets in South Tamworth, following reports a man had been stabbed.
“At that location a 37-year-old man was suffering from stab wounds and unfortunately he passed away at the scene.” said Detective Inspector Jason Darcy, Crime Manager for Oxley Police District.
“At this stage it is a very fluid investigation and Oxley Police District Detectives with State Crime Homicide and a Regional Response Team Investigators from across the region are currently working on the matter here in Tamworth.”
Following inquiries, detectives visited a home on Cossa Street, South Tamworth, and arrested the 28-year-old man. He was charged with murder, and refused bail to appear before Tamworth Local Court on Tuesday 20 June.
Police are appealing to the public for any information surrounding this incident.
“Anyone who may have been in Suzanne Street yesterday afternoon, or around Cossa Street, in West Tamworth, around the flats, if they have any information surrounding this matter to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Tamworth Police Station.”
