For our youth and the young at heart, Tenterfield’s new youth precinct and mountain bike trailhead is officially opening this weekend, Saturday 24th June.
For Tenterfield Shire Council this project has been a long time coming and it’s great to get it over the line.
“It will be a fantastic thing for Tenterfield and for those passing through that want to take a break and to let off some steam from the kids in the car.” said Fiona Keneally, Director Infrastructure Tenterfield Shire Council.
“It has been a culmination of three different funding bodies with the NSW Public Spaces Legacy Fund, the NSW Streets as Shared Spaces Round 2 Fund, and Stronger Country Communities Fund Round 5.” said Fiona.
“Tomorrow is the opening of stage one and then we will have another stage going in later, which is a basketball court across the road in Jubilee Park.”
If you were wondering what is in there, we can tell you there is something for everyone.
“We have a pump track with an adult and beginners track for biking enthusiasts, we have a skate park with a full bowl, a container café, a half-court basketball court with different games painted on it and we have a mountain bike skills track with both an advanced track and a beginner track as well.” said Fiona.
“The youth in Tenterfield and the young at heart are going to enjoy it.”
The project aims to entice everyone to get outdoors and enjoy Tenterfield’s beautiful back drop, and just in time for the school holidays.
“There are some nice pathways through there, some nice shady areas and an outdoor BBQ.” said Fiona.
There will be an official ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:30am tomorrow before getting the activities underway, including free workshops for the kids, but get in quick before they book out.
“There will be a skills demonstration on the skate park, so a few sessions for people to learn some new tricks.” said Fiona.
Helmets and skateboards will be provided with sessions commencing at 11:45am, 1pm and 2:15pm. You can book your spot here: Youth Precinct opening Skate workshop Tickets, Tenterfield Youth Precinct (Skate Bowl), Tenterfield | TryBooking Australia
There will be a sausage sizzle with a gold coin donation as well as other activities on the day.
“We hope everyone can come down and enjoy the day with us.” said Fiona.
