Football stars are gearing up to return to Inverell’s Sports Complex this September as we kick off the annual Inverell Joeys Mini World Cup Tournament.
The five-day competition has been absent from the region since 2017 but is ready to make a big return.
“We are pleased to get it back to Inverell after being in Hervey Bay and Lismore, so it will be good be local again,” said Henrich.
Founder of the Inverell Joeys Mini World Cup, Heinrich Haussler, began the competition in Inverell in 2010, which now attracts over 50 teams to the annual event.
The tournament caters for all ages groups, from under 8’s through to open’s teams, and organisers anticipate over two thousand visitors and more than 900 players.
“It will bring a bring crowd to the region and Inverell and we know the town will welcome it back,” said Heinrich.
The week-long event celebrates the great sport of football, pitting team against team, skill against skill, and creating opportunities further afield.
Many players will be hoping to catch the eye of a panel of talent spotters for a selection of a lifetime.
“Players in our older division have the opportunity to be selected for our touring All-Star team to go to Germany, while we have something for the younger ones to get excited about.”
“Since starting the German tours, we are always being asked why the younger kids, 12 and 13 year olds can’t go, the tour is too long, so we have brought in a nine day football tour of Japan that won’t just be playing football but a cultural experience as well.”
“We are offering a full free tour to a player and a coach for the Japan tour, as well as subsidies of $500 to selected players and coaches,” he said.
Inverell Joeys Mini World Cup will commence Monday 25th September to Saturday 30th September, with an opening ceremony on the Monday.
Teams have until Friday 1st September to enter with more details on the event to be released closer to the date.
