Two Tenterfield residents have been denied bail after appearing in Tamworth Local Court today, charged over the alleged abduction of a child from Coffs Harbour yesterday.
An amber alert was issued late on Friday after a two-year-old boy was taken away by a man. A 61-year-old woman was allegedly injured, her arm being broken in the abduction strugle outside an office in Coffs Harbour. Members of the public made multiple calls to Triple Zero after witnessing the incident at about 2pm, with some trying to intervene.
Following on-going appeals for assistance, the boy was found about 11.30pm, almost 300km away in Tenterfield and a man and woman arrested. The two alleged abductors were taken to Tenterfield Police Station where they were charged with multiple offences.
The 37-year-old man has been charged with taking and detaining a child with intent to remove from parental control (DV), and reckless grievous bodily harm. He has also been charged with breach of bail. A 35-year-old woman has been charged with taking and detaining a child with intent to remove from parental control (DV), and breach of bail.
The two, who are both from Tenterfield, been refused bail to appear in Tamworth Local Court today, and will next appear in court on Monday.
