Australian soccer star Alex Chidiac will present at the Tamworth Sports Dome this Monday 25 March 2024.
The Matildas midfielder has been recruited by Centacare to offer a one-off talk and Q & A session to local schoolgirls as a part of their Women in Sport Program.
“This event is all about really increasing engagement for women in sport and we are very excited to welcome Alex to Tamworth,” said Centacare New England North West’s Women in Sport Project Officer Ally Mackinnon.
“The morning will give school aged girls the chance to meet a real-life Matilda and hear her story about what it takes to be a professional sportsperson.”
Ms Chidiac is most broadly known for her appearances with the Matildas, but also plays A-League Football for the Melbourne Victory, as well as making appearances with other teams internationally in Mexico and the USA.
The event is suitable for all school-aged girls from kindergarten to grade 12 and is completely free.
Girls can either attend as a whole school group, or their parents are welcome to bring them as individuals, but registration is required.
Ms Chidiac will talk about her sporting journey so far and will then do a Q & A session, as well as offering an opportunity for girls to get a photo and an autograph afterwards.
“Alex is really keen to interact with the girls,” said Ms Mackinnon.
This is also a complete one-off event with Ms Mackinnon saying that, at this stage, Ms Chidiac is not undertaking any other presentations.
“It’s going to be a really fun morning, in keeping with the all-female theme, we also have the Lionesses from the Tamworth Lions Club coming down to do a free sausage sizzle for everyone,” said Ms Mackinnon.
To register to attend, you can fill out the form via the QR code on Centacare’s Facebook page or contact Ms Mackinnon directly on 02 6762 9252.
