Grassroots sports across the New England will receive funding for new life-saving defibrillators at local sports facilities.
In our region, the following organisation made the cut for the latest round of funding:
– BCI Gymnastics Inverell
-Schofield’s Flying Club in Tamworth
-New England Veterans Cricket Walcha
-Walcha Pony Club
-Tamworth Veterans Cricket
-Inverell Working Equitation Club
-Gravesend Pony Club
-Narribri Pistol Club Inc
-Moree Sports health arts and education academy
-Moree Plains Shire Council: Ron Harborne Oval Precinct
-Spring Ridge Country Club
-Tamworth Golf Club
-Quirindi Dressage Club Inc.
-Guyra Lions Park Sporting Complex
-Sapphire City Gymnastics Incorporated Inverell
-Gunnedah WoodTurners Club Incorporated
-Glen Innes Mineral and Gem Club
-Walcha Clay Target Association Incorporated
Inverell’s Gymnastics application says an AED in our gymnasium would provide peace of mind to our coaches and families knowing that a device is readily available. We have many volunteers some elderly – however we are also aware of the chances of a heart attack in our younger gymnastic family and want to be prepared.
Meanwhile, Tamworth’s Flying Club says the AED will help us supplement the startup of our Tamworth Operations, and members of our club that use our facility will benefit as well as our flight training students. Additionally, schoolgoers that visit the facility will have access to the AED from schools on Aviation Experience days.
The funding is part of a share of $500,000 under the NSW Government’s Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program, to be spread across an approved 194 organisation across the state.
Each organisation will receive up to $3,000 towards the purchase, installation, and training in a new automated external defibrillator.
“Heart attacks and heart disease do not discriminate, and access to a defibrillator immediately following a cardiac arrest can mean the difference between life and death.” said Minister for Sport Steve Kamper.
“The NSW Government wants to ensure that people participating in sport in the State’s most disadvantaged areas have access to the same life-saving equipment as people in more affluent areas.
