If you are a fan of local football, mark down July 20 because it’s the North Tamworth Bears Annual Ladies Day, which promises an afternoon filled with rugby league action and entertainment.
Gates open at Jack Woolaston Oval in North Tamworth at 11am. Expect at least four games showcasing a wealth of local talent and ending with round 14 of the regular first grade competition.
Tickets are on sale now. Organised by club members Bree Poetschka and Jessica LeBrocq, the day promises a healthy combination of sports, entertainment, and a vibrant atmosphere with food, drink and a bit of fun.
“Our lady’s day event is a chance to say thank you to the ladies involved in the club, wives and mums, while also having a great day out, enjoy a few drinks, and see some top notch local football,” Bree said.
“Last year we were raising money for one of our lady’s who was affected by cancer; it was a good turnout, and this year, we hope to build on that again and get even more people through the gate.”
The first game will be the 18s team kicking off at 11:00am. Ladies league tag will follow at 12:15pm. The reserve grade are playing from 1:20pm. While the main event, the first-grade showdown between the North Tamworth Bears and the Gunnedah Bulldogs starts at 2:45pm.
Bree says between games, expect to see a variety of other events as well, most of which attendees can participate in. Three legged races, fashions on the field, kicking competitions, heads and tails, raffles, lucky door prizes and more.
After the games, music is scheduled at the clubhouse from 4:30pm to 8:30 pm. According to Bree, this is the first year ladies day will feature so many different forms of entertainment along with the games. It definitely won’t be the last though, with plans to grow the event well beyond this year.
“This is the first we are selling tickets; previously, it’s been a gold coin donation, but it’s growing every year, and we are trying to make it bigger and bigger,” she said.
“The goal is to make it more of an event all the community can come and attend, rather than just players and supporters, everyone from outside the club is welcome to come along and get involved.”
