Artificial intelligence is everywhere and increasingly being used in all aspects of our lives. For the media industry, it is causing a major disruption: just as the introduction of the internet upended how content is delivered, AI is now upending how content is created.
ABC Friends Northern Tablelands will host a public presentation on AI and the media next Tuesday night. Dr. Rob Nicholls, a senior research associate at the University of Sydney and an expert in artificial intelligence (AI) and its implications for media, will discuss the current landscape of AI technologies, their effects on journalism and broadcasting, and future trends.
Dr. Nicholls served as Australia’s Independent Telecommunications Adjudicator from 2012 to 2020, and he currently advises regulatory bodies and government officials both in Australia and internationally. His research focuses on the intersection of technology and regulation, and he provides regulatory and policy advice to the Association for Data-driven Marketing and Advertising.
Emeritus Professor Brian Byrne, convenor of ABC Friends Northern Tablelands, said the discussion will interest anyone concerned about AI and its potential impact on journalism, broadcasting, and society at large.
