A very different feel for Moree Plains going forward, but Susannah Pearse’s significant vote did not end up swaying the result. Beyond electing running mate Brooke Sauer (which is how groups are supposed to work), the preferences then went almost evenly across the board.
Unfortunately the highly capable Mekayla Cochrane was not re-elected. But as many a defeated-councillor-turned-MP will too you, that’s not always a bad thing.

The likely new Mayor Susannah Pearse was quick to thank her friends, family and supporters.
“Thank you to every one who decided to put your trust in me and put a number one next to my name. I have been both surprised and honoured by just how many people did so. I do not take your votes lightly and am committed to fulfilling my role and representing you with a high level of integrity and commitment.”
“Being a local government councillor whilst hard work, is a great privilege. As someone who is not originally from the Moree Plains, I count myself as especially fortunate to represent this region – my beloved adopted home – and to be able to do my best for each and every resident.”
“With the election now behind us, the real work begins. I encourage every resident to stay engaged, share their ideas, and hold us all accountable
