Five people have been charged after a police investigation into a fight at Inverell last Thursday.
Police were called to Captain Cook Drive, Inverell, at 8pm last Thursday (2 February 2023), following reports of a fight in the car park involving several people allegedly armed with bats, clubs and metal bars.
Officers attached to New England Police District attended; however, the group had left the scene.
Police searching the area found several people nearby suffering injuries including concussion, cuts and bruising. Two were treated at Inverell Hospital while a third was treated by paramedics. Others declined treatment.
Following inquiries, a 47-year-old man was arrested on Friday (3 February 2023) and taken to Inverell Police Station where he was charged with affray. He’s been granted conditional bail to appear at Inverell Local Court on Thursday 16 March 2023.
Yesterday (Saturday 4 February 2023), officers arrested a further four people. They were taken to Inverell Police Station and were charged;
• An 18-year-old man from Inverell was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and affray. He was also charged with breach of bail. He was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Bail Court today (Sunday 5 February 2023)
• A 21-year-old woman was charged with affray. She’s been granted conditional bail to appear in Inverell Local Court on Thursday 23 March 2023.
• A 16-year-old boy has been charged with affray and being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence. He’s been bailed to appear at a children’s court on Thursday 23 February 2023.
• A 16-year-old boy has been charged with affray. He’s been bailed to appear at a children’s court on Thursday 23 February 2023.
Three youths are expected to be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
Inquiries are continuing.
