People in Gunnedah will have a new court to play on thanks to a grant from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.
PCYC (Police Citizens Youth Clubs NSW) Gunnedah have been successful in winning the grant after they identified a need to replace the existing Sports Court.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson congratulated the team at PCYC on the $251,442 grant and said the court replacement was a big win for young people in the Gunnedah community.
“PCYC Gunnedah do an outstanding job providing an outlet for young people in Gunnedah, keeping them engaged and active,” Mr Anderson said.
“That is why we continue to support the club when they identify a need for an upgrade of their facilities.
“Replacing the clubs ageing indoor court allows PCYC to expand and grow their current programs and reintroduce Futsal, basketball, volleyball, netball and pickleball, which is exciting for the club’s 400 members.”
Dominic Teakle, CEO of PCYC NSW said they were excited about the new court.
“As a youth charity, PCYC NSW has been serving communities across NSW and we are excited to be the recipients of the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.”
“This will provide further opportunities for the Gunnedah community with the upgrade to the existing sports court, to continue to bring new and well-run court sport activities to the area.”
Club Manager Jessica Blair said replacing the existing court floor with a plastic surface with multiple line markings would encourage a range of new court activities and enhance the user experience for club members.
PCYC, a registered charity in its 85th year, operates 66 clubs across the state, with more than 95,000 members and 63,000 youth members, allowing police to engage with community members through sporting, recreational, cultural, and educational activities.
