Tamworth Family Supports Services’ (TFSS) Winter Warmer Appeal is kicking off in a new direction, with the inaugural Winter Warmer Soccer Cup.
With a goal to take small steps for a big cause, the event aims to highlight the growing need of struggling families across the New England.
“The number of families we are seeing doing it tough is increasing all of the time, although the announcement of a wage increase will help a lot of people, there are still so many families that are suffering from electricity bills and the cost of groceries, and living expenses is going up, and the wages aren’t matching it.” Said Tamworth Family Support Services CEO, Belinda Kotris.
Looking for a new way to raise funds, a soccer game fits the mould for the local service.
“The idea of the soccer match is we have a lot of soccer players within our organisation so for them to enjoy the sport and make it fun is where it came from.”
“There will be five teams and it is very much a social comp, and we are certainly hoping there will be a good range of spectators.”
The game will kick off at 5:30pm tonight, Wednesday 7th June 2023 at Gipps Street Sporting Fields with a strong line up of local talent with teams from TFSS, Tamworth Junior Chamber, PKF Accounting, North Companions Football Club and Billabong Clubhouse.
Backed by local sponsors and businesses, there will be plenty of opportunities to make a donation and help TFSS on the way to their $8000 goal.
“This year our target is high, but we are on track.” Said Belinda.
“Our appeals are to assist those who are doing it tough in the New England, so any funds raised through the match and our other avenues will go towards them.”
Funds will be raised through team registrations, raffle tickets on the night, other prizes and donations can be made through the TFSS Winter Warmer Appeal website: TFSS Winter Warmer Appeal (raisely.com)
No donation is too small, and all for a big cause.
