The Narrabri Jockey Club is ready to host the Narrabri Races on Saturday 23 March 2024.
After months of meticulous preparation, the grounds and track are in excellent condition, promising racegoers an unforgettable day of racing, entertainment, and family fun.
The club which celebrates 150 years in 2024 since it was first formed, has been working tirelessly since late 2023 to enhance the overall race day experience for patrons. The club has undertaken some cosmetic upgrades to facilities include the installation of new fencing around the parade ring area, freshly turfed from the ticket box to the clubhouse and given club buildings a few coats of paint, creating a welcoming and aesthetically pleasing atmosphere.
President Will Childs said the track and club surrounds are looking great thanks to the efforts of club members, sponsors and community volunteers, “We’ve had several working bees leading up to race day. Last weekend was a big one with cementing of fence posts, rolling out 1200 square metres of turf, and completing repairs to track barriers as well as general tidy up.
“Since late last year we have been very fortunate to have several dedicated members of the club who have been out tending to the track and club surroundings.” said Will.
This will be the first race meet being held by the new committee which formed late in 2023 and is a mix of previous and new members.
It will also be the first race meet since 2022 after flood damage to the road and racecourse caused the 2023 meet to be cancelled.
“We are excited to bring back racing to Narrabri in 2024. There will be a few new additions to the day including a big screen streaming live racing from around the country all day, additional marquee for general admission ticket holders to enjoy the day in shade, jumping castle for the kids, and a few hours of post-race local musical entertainment from Wait for Green.” said Will.
“The canteen will be running with additional food options in the form of two food trucks serving a variety of snack options including nachos and Thai food. The bar will be operating, and we have additional mini bars around the venue to take the pressure off the main area to keep things moving.”
The day will include a lineup of six races with gates opening at 11am, allowing race goers the opportunity to soak in the atmosphere and get themselves settled for the afternoon. The licenced bars will start serving beverages at noon, setting the stage for an afternoon of excitement with racing commencing around 1pm.
“The main race of the meet is the Qube Agri Narrabri Cup with the Hutcheon and Pearce Wee Waa Cup and four additional races being held over the afternoon.” said Will.
“The club have been fortunate to have the likes of Max Orman Toyota, JA Smith Solutions, Nutrien Ag Solutions Narrabri and AFF jump on board to sponsor the additional races.”
“The committee has been blown away by the support of local businesses wanting to contribute to our race meet.”
“On behalf of the club, I’d like to thank them all for their support.”
Narrabri Jockey Club invites the community to attend an extraordinary day of racing and entertainment at the Narrabri Races on 23 March 2024.
